Making an Impact: CAHEC at Work

Meet the Heard Family

CAHEC continues to be inspired by the resident stories we hear throughout the year. After speaking with the property manager of Heatherton Park Apartments in Jacksonville, NC, we knew this story of volunteerism by the Heard family would be the perfect one to share with our partners.

The Heards are known as some of the most reliable residents on the property and are always willing to lend a hand. Whether a neighbor is in need of a ride to work, or an elderly friend downstairs needs assistance bringing their groceries inside, the Heards always do what they can to help. “This is one family that steadily does wonderful things for the people in their community. They are caring and giving, and I can’t say enough good things about them,” the property manager said with pride. “It’s so nice to see our community coming together.”

During the holidays, the Heards helped with a food drive for the residents of Heatherton Park. With the help of a local church and Partnership Property Management (PPM), the Heards were able to put together a food basket – including a ham, all the fixings, drinks, and various boxed goods – for each of the 40 units on the property. Each child also received a wrapped gift, which is incredible since there are nearly 60 children living on-site. The property even received enough food donations to help provide a meal at a nearby senior community that PPM manages. “Mr. and Mrs. Heard were extremely helpful during this entire event, even their two kids were excited to pitch in!”

Mrs. Heard was very humble while sharing her family’s story with us, in fact, she didn’t really want to be acknowledged for the great things she and her family do in the community. “We don’t really want credit for doing any of this, we just believe it’s our responsibility to help others when we can.”
